A Field by County O

Brian McCorkle

In the summer
the field was full
of tall grasses.
Milkweed at the edge;
a home for larva
of monarch butterflies

Now a cover of snow
is arranged by winds.
A brown thistle
breaks the surface;
and cold squeals
beneath my feet
